Spencer Grace provides training to groups through a one-day Communicating in Writing course and a half-day Editing course. We also offer one-on-one coaching for individuals who want to perfect a specific document or generally improve their business communication skills.

Communicating in Writing

This full-day program hones business writing at the beginning to intermediate level. In a hands-on setting, 6 to 12 participants craft recommendations using a persuasive framework. Additionally, they rework their writing to choose the right tone, organize for impact, and edit effectively. Attendees also practice techniques that increase readability and test their knowledge of grammar and punctuation.

Spencer Grace delivers this training program in partnership with Amy Hohulin Training & Development. Here's what participants say about Communicating in Writing:

The techniques are practical ...

  • "Using what I've learned and with the workbook as a reference, letters and memos will become a breeze to create."
  • "I now am armed with tools to make my writing better. I've identified where my strengths and weaknesses are and can now take steps to change them."
  • "I learned a lot of new techniques that I can immediately utilize."
  • "My communication to my client will be tremendously improved."
  • "I found the course helpful in all aspects of what I do. I feel as though starting a project will be much easier and organized."
  • "The information will help me to find resources and rethink the way I write."
  • "This should help me every day at work."

The participants achieve their goals ...

  • "I would recommend this class to everyone. In some ways it was a good refresher; in other ways it was very enlightening."
  • "Fabulous! I enjoyed myself, learned a lot, and walked away with resources for the future."
  • I enjoyed watching the transition in my work, which has given me more confidence in my writing skills.
  • The relaxed atmosphere of the group made opening up and sharing concerns very easy to do, which in turn allowed me to address some of my writing issues.
  • The emphasis on writing as a process, not just a product, was important.
  • Although this was a one-day workshop, we were given more than enough time to apply the skills we were taught. And, we were given a book with tips, sresources, etc.

The facilitators make it happen ...

  • The two instructors were great. I really wanted help in this area, and they went over exactly what I was looking for.
  • With a topic that you could spend years learning about and memorizing rules, you did a great job pulling out the basics in a way that was not too overwhelming

Editing

This half-day course is ideal for teams of writers or managers new to evaluating writing. As many as 20 attendees generate techniques for providing effective feedback, discuss editing concepts and edit customized examples using the Editing Checklist.
